This works best in Chrome, Opera, and Vivaldi (all based on the same engine), as the image preloading option seems to be broken in the others, so some transition flicker shows. What I think is a nice addition to the new Picture Mode article: a small Image Flipper, allowing for critical comparisons between different versions of (usually) the same image. Does that mean that 1.2 is the new 2.0? Together with their slightly older sibling, the 25/1.2, they look like identical triplets (except for curvature of the front element) this is quite unusual.
So far, I like most (if not all) things about this device, but I'm still busy tweaking the system, installing the software I will need, and running it.
Give me a chance, at least wait until I post the full first draft of the review, with the Bottom Line section. It is gorgeous.īut, before you send your money to China, wait! Depending on your preferences and needs, this may become one of your favorite pieces of computing gear - or an endless source of disappointment and frustration. That feel may be related to beautifully crafted, solid metal alloy body, which for many would be enough of a reason to buy the whole bloody thing. It is tiny (18×11 cm or 7¼×4¼"), a little bit chunky (19 mm or ¾"), and feels surprisingly heavy at 500 g (1.1 lb). Just to show how globally intertwined our lives became.Īnd now I'm having a field day with this little sucker.
Why am I going into all this trivia? Just to make a point that it took at least a dozen drivers (and/or pilots) to bring my stupid package from Beijing to Crofton. The next day, November 4th, the USPS stuffs the parcel into my mailbox. Now, only Fairview Township, PA, and Alethorpe, MD, and to Crofton, MD US Post Office (they took over from FedEx on the last stretch). That is already east of the Mississippi River, close to home. It did not sit long there, leaving just after three hours, this time for Parks, AZ, then Froom, TX, Sullivan, MO, Genoa, OH, all in one-day jumps. I placed the order on the 17th, it was reported shipped from Beijing the next day, and then I haven't heard from my parcel until nine days later, when it was seen in Los Angeles, CA. Postprocessing in PSP: local tone mapping, monochrome Here is my own, secret (until now) Bigos Recipe. Traditionally, between Christmas and New Year I'll be making there bigos, or the Polish hunter's stew. The picture is a part of a series to get a cartoon look, I applied some local tone mapping before converting it to monochrome. From left to right: my wife, our friend, and the turkey. Picture of the Week: Thanksgiving in my kitchen, a few years ago. Merry Christmas (or Hannukah), everyone, and a happy New Year!
Owners of DxO Optics Pro can upgrade for free, and there’s also a free one-month trial version available. The tree is dressed up, traditional Christmas Eve dishes brought from caterer's (easy way out, I admit), the family getting together.
The new additions concern the Sony A7 III, Panasonic Lumix G9, Panasonic Lumix TZ90, Panasonic Lumix GF9, Canon EOS 2000D, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.ĭxO PhotoLab comes in two versions, Essential and Elite, which can be downloaded from the DxO website for £99/$129 and £159/$199 respectively. There’s also a new keyboard shortcut to show the U Point mask in greyscale and to indicate the area that’ll be affected by its correction.ĭxO has also added some new camera profiles from recent releases, allowing it to automatically correct optical defects. The tool’s equaliser system has been altered to reflect the additions, with local settings grouped into the categories: Light, Color and Detail. Version 1.2 also comes with Hue (HSL) and Selective Tone settings, which allow for selective local recovery of highlights and shadows. One of the headline updates is the integration of Nik’s U Point technology, following the acquisition from Google, which means photographers can "apply local settings in a non-destructive Raw stream to specific areas in an image." It’s a complete Raw and JPEG processing package, using the highly mathematical methods DxO is famous for.
This is the latest version of what was formerly known as DxO Optics Pro.
